2030 - Bivac on Erg Ghebbi - Merzouga desert
Description
2 days dromedary riding with a night in the desert.
An excursion in Erg Ghebby dunes and fantastic night in the very heart of desert.
From and to Merzouga.
Riding dromedaries we penetrate the desert. Bivouac under a Berber tent, dinner and breakfast included.
Programme: In Merzouga we take the tame dromedaries to enter the first Saharan dunes. The departure time is around 15h - 16h so as not to miss the sunset. After two – two and half hours riding we get to the bivouac in the desert, sheltered beside a big dune where we can climb to admire sunset and the desert all around. We'll sleep under Berber tents on clean and comfortable mattresses. Blankets and pillows are supplied, anyhow our advice is to bring with you a sleeping bag or a sheet bag. At night all under the tent for a fantastic dinner organised and prepared by Berber guides. Afterwards, with the background music of bongo drums and songs by the fire, you'll admire the myriad of stars over your head. The morning after we take our breakfast and ride again the dromedaries to go back to Merzouga.
At return is possible make a shower at shared bathroom of the ksar.
Treks include dinner, breakfast, desert bivouac with mattresses and bedding, camels!, and guide.
Surroundings
Our bivouac is just in the middle of Chebbi Erg, at 2 hours dromedary riding from civilisation: all around only the desert. The small Ghebbi Erg, only a few kilometres from Algerian boundary, will suddenly appear to you as soon as you arrive in Merzouga. It is an unespected sight: From Erfoud you can reach Merzouga by car, across a comfortable asphalt road built over the hamada, the wide expanse of grey stones which for hundreds of kilometres characterises the south Moroccan landscape. In Merzouga a range of picturesque ksars will welcome you, that have nearly all been transformed in inns and hotels. And behind them ... there it is, the Sahara, with its red dunes, some of which higher than 120 meters.
Numberless are the films that have been shot in the Ghebbi Erg, to cite only one, the pleasant Marrakech Express by Gabriele Salvatores
If you arrive by car you can leave your car in the parking of the ksar which organises the excursion (where, if you like, you can stop and sleep the night before the trip) There is also a deposit for luggage.
